My rescue dog will not eat the first few days. Should I worry?

He has been home 2 days and barely touches his food. Otherwise seems okay.

A brand-new rescue not eating for the first day or two is very common. It is stress, not necessarily a health problem, especially if they are drinking water and otherwise alert. Try: feeding in a quiet spot away from foot traffic, keeping the same food the rescue used if you can, and not hovering. Most dogs come around within a few days as they decompress (see the 3-3-3 rule). When to call a vet: no food AND no water for more than about 24 hours, vomiting, diarrhea, lethargy, or any sign of pain. More tips: /alberta/dog-adoption-calgary/resources/rescue-dog-not-eating
