Adopting a cat in Regina

Regina cat adoption runs almost entirely through the Regina Humane Society. They handle urban surrenders, strays, and a steady inflow of kittens during the prairie kitten season.

LocalPetFinder is not a shelter. We do not house cats or process adoptions. We pull the Humane Society's cat listings into one place and refresh them regularly. You apply through the Humane Society directly. The site is free and we never add a fee on top of the shelter's adoption cost.

Kittens versus adult cats

Prairie kitten season runs roughly April through October, and Regina Humane intake reflects that. Summer brings litters and bottle-fed neonates; winter inventory leans more toward adult cats whose temperament is already settled.

A kitten is mostly potential. You shape socialisation, but you do not know yet how the cat will end up with kids or other pets. An adult cat is mostly known. The shelter has spent weeks watching how it behaves, which is the single best predictor of how the next year in your home goes. For a busy household or a first-time cat owner, an adult cat is often the easier match.

What the adoption fee covers

A Regina Humane Society cat adoption fee is not the cat's price. It offsets the medical work the shelter has already paid for. The fee generally covers the spay or neuter surgery, core vaccinations, a microchip, deworming and basic parasite treatment, and a veterinary health check before placement.

Senior cats and special-needs cats often have reduced fees. Confirm the current fee and exactly what is included on the cat's own listing.

Indoor cats and the Regina climate

Most Regina Humane cats are placed indoor-only. That is not a quirk of the shelter, it is a real safety call. Regina winter air at minus 30 is dangerous to a cat in minutes, the open prairie around the city has coyotes and other predators, and outdoor cats live much shorter lives. An indoor cat with a window perch, a few good toys, and 20 minutes of daily play is a healthy cat.
