About Cashew

In the fall of 2022, a curious home owner (who happens to be a PAW foster-provider) asked her neighbours why they were boarding up around the bottom of their backyard shed. The answer was that they were “tired of mother cats giving birth under it”. With all the nailing and hammering, apparently the most recent mother cat had bolted, along with all her kittens but one. That one (Peanut) was rescued almost immediately (and quickly adopted). A few weeks later, the remaining three kittens were trapped but sadly their orange mom was never captured. While Brazil remains unadopted, Hazel and Cashew were adopted. But, after three years, Cashew was returned to PAW through no fault of his own. Cashew’s sudden shift to a new environment didn’t worry him for long. After three years as an only-cat, he was suddenly confronted with a new environment and several felines. If this unnerved him, it didn’t last for long. He became comfortable with most of them within a few short weeks. Now, several months since his return, we feel he would quickly adapt once again to being a single cat. He is somewhat indifferent to his foster sisters and brothers. Cashew wants a human who wants what he wants: a loyal friend. Finding his very own person to adore and be adored by would fill his little heart. He loves to press his face into yours and is interested in everything you do. Cashew is in great shape (see Health Note below). He’s very athletic and loves to play with his person – a string toy is his favourite. He looks a little apprehensive in his photographs but they were taken very soon after he was returned to PAW. He is a naturally relaxed gentleman. Health Note: On March 31, 2026, PAW had a dental done for Cashew. Sixteen teeth had to be removed (and yes, he is only four years old!). His mouth healed well. After Cashew’s dental, he was moved to another foster home. Sometimes this happens. When a cat is returned, there is immediate need, and so the cat will often be squeezed in wherever possible. In this case, after a few weeks, a foster home with fewer cats had an opening. Even though his newest foster home is a busy place, he is very accepting of all the comings and goings. There are also two small dogs who basically ignore the cats and vice versa.
