Found strays in Calgary are often brought to the City of Calgary Animal Services impound or to the Calgary Humane Society. Check both within the first 24 to 48 hours and keep checking every day or two — hold periods are short. Calling 311 files an official lost pet report with the City.
Watch out for lost pet scams
Never send money to someone claiming to have your pet — no “transport fees,” no “vet bill deposits,” no gift cards. Before meeting anyone, ask them to describe something about your pet that isn't visible in the photos you posted. A genuine finder can; a scammer can't. Meet in a public place whenever possible.

Is it free to post a lost or found pet report?
Yes, completely free. LocalPetFinder is a Calgary pet adoption platform and the lost and found board is a free community service. There are no fees to post, browse, contact a reporter, or receive alerts.
How fast does my report go live?
Reports are reviewed before publishing to keep the board free of spam and scams, usually within a few hours. As soon as your report is approved it appears on the board and alert emails go out to subscribers in your quadrant. You also get a private edit link by email to update details or mark your pet as reunited.
What should I do first when my pet goes missing?
Start searching close to home immediately — most pets are found within a few blocks. Post a report here with a clear photo, then call City of Calgary Animal Services at 311 to file a lost pet report and check Calgary Humane Society, where found strays are often taken. Tell your immediate neighbours and community Facebook groups, and make sure your pet licence and microchip contact details are current so a finder can reach you directly.
I found a pet — should I take it to a shelter?
First check for a tag and post a found report here so the owner can find you. If the pet is friendly and safe to hold onto, keeping it locally for a day or two raises the odds of a reunion because most owners search their own neighbourhood first. Any vet clinic can scan for a microchip for free. If you cannot keep the pet, City of Calgary Animal Services accepts found animals and holds them for their owners.
