Howdy, I’m Dougie Doo. I’ve been in foster care for a whole year now and, while I love my foster family, I’m really ready for a place to call my true home. I’m basically a teenage boy in a dog’s body—full of joy, confidence and the belief that I might just be top dog. I love being part of a family and I’m actually pretty great at the important stuff: I’m crate-trained, house-trained, respectful indoors, not food aggressive and I can settle quietly on my bed after a fun day. Speaking of fun … I’m all about swimming, bike rides and, most importantly, chasing balls. Full disclosure: I love balls so much that I’m known to proudly hoard two or three at a time just out of your reach. The dog park isn’t really my scene though; I get so excited to meet everyone that my listening skills (and basic commands like “come” or “sit”) temporarily disappear. I still pull a bit on leash and do best with a head collar or figure-8 slip collar. I also need a secure fenced yard—despite healing from broken toes after being hit by a car, I still think running alongside vehicles to see who’s faster sounds like a good idea. I’d thrive in a home with space to run and people who enjoy being active and have patience, consistency and a sense of humor. I could be your only dog, or live with a young, energetic female dog after a slow introduction. I’m not perfect—but with time, guidance and love, I could be your perfect. If you’re ready to work toward that together, I’m ready to meet you.
