Kelowna is the largest city in the Okanagan, and cat adoption here runs primarily through the BC SPCA. Cats listed for Kelowna come from the central Okanagan rather than from a large multi-rescue network.
LocalPetFinder is not a shelter. We do not house cats or process adoptions. We pull Kelowna-area cat listings into one place and refresh them on a regular cycle. You apply through the shelter directly, the site is free, and we never add a fee on top of the adoption cost.
The Kelowna cat list is small. On a given week it may hold only a few cats, and a well-matched one can be adopted within days of appearing.
Setting an alert beats checking repeatedly. It is also worth widening your search across the Okanagan, since a two-hour drive covers most of the region and rescues here place across it.
A cat adoption fee is not the cat's price. It offsets vetting already paid for by the shelter. Fees generally cover spay or neuter, core vaccinations, a microchip, deworming, and a veterinary check before placement.
Confirm the current fee and inclusions on the cat's own listing, since it varies with age and any special medical care. A vetted adopted cat costs far less than a free kitten you then have to catch up on.
Okanagan rescues place cats as indoor-only. Kelowna summers are hot and dry, wildfire smoke is a recurring summer reality that is hard on feline airways, and the benches and orchards around the city carry coyotes and raptors.
The 3-3-3 guide is a fair map for a new cat: roughly three days to stop hiding, three weeks to trust a routine, three months to feel at home. Hiding early on is normal behaviour, not a sign the match is wrong.
Ask the shelter how the cat has behaved in care. Staff notes on how a cat handles noise, handling, dogs, and other cats predict the first year better than anything you can judge in a meet and greet.
