Why Cú (Coo) Chulainn Needs a New Home

This is an incredibly difficult post for us to make, but after a lot of thought and effort, we have made the decision to find a new home for our puppy, Cú. Cú is almost a year old and is a genuinely lovely girl. She is affectionate, playful, intelligent, energetic, and very people-oriented. Unfortunately, we have come to realize that our home simply isn't the right environment for her to thrive. Cú is a young, high-energy dog who needs more consistent structure, training, exercise, and one-on-one attention than we are realistically able to give her. We have worked hard to make things work, but one of our children isn't able to consistently recognize or communicate boundaries with her. Cú, being an enthusiastic adolescent puppy, doesn't understand those boundaries either. Her excitement, jumping and puppy mouthing can then escalate the situation, creating a cycle that isn't fair to either of them and has become increasingly difficult for us to manage safely. This isn't a decision we're making because Cú is a "bad dog." Quite the opposite. She's a very good dog who needs a household better suited to the dog she actually is, rather than asking her to become a different dog in order to fit ours. We believe she would do best with someone who has the time and ability to continue her training, give her plenty of physical and mental activity, and provide her with consistent boundaries and structure. She has so much potential, and in the right home we genuinely think she will flourish. Our priority is finding Cú the right home, not simply finding her a home. We love her very much, and as heartbreaking as this decision is, we believe giving her the opportunity to thrive with a family better matched to her needs is the kindest choice we can make for her.
