The Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue at 295 Bayside Drive rehomes hundreds of cats and dogs every year, and cats arrive in a steady stream: strays from the city, surrenders, and the kittens that show up each warm season. For a Saint John adopter, it is the place to look first.
LocalPetFinder is not a shelter. We bring the rescue's cat listings into one searchable page and refresh them regularly. Applications go to the rescue directly, the site is free, and we never add to the adoption fee.
Adoption in Saint John runs on applications and appointments rather than drop-in browsing. You pick a cat from the listings, apply, and the rescue books your visit once the application has been looked over. It feels slower than walking into a cattery, but it works better: the rescue matches deliberately, and the cats stay calmer without constant foot traffic.
The practical side: if a cat on this page looks right, apply now rather than waiting for the weekend. Applications are the queue.
Saint John is an indoor-cat city. Fundy winters are damp and snowy, the fog season is long, and busy port-city streets are unforgiving to a free-roaming cat. Indoor cats live years longer here, and rescues place cats with that expectation. Set up perches, scratchers, and a window view before your cat arrives.
The adoption fee reflects medical work already done, generally the spay or neuter, core vaccinations, a microchip, deworming, and a health check before placement. That is a fraction of the same care bought retail, and it is the honest comparison to make against any "free kitten" ad. Confirm the exact fee and inclusions on each cat's listing.
Every cat adopted from the Saint John SPCA Animal Rescue frees space and funding for the next local animal in need. The supply is genuinely local: Fundy-region strays and surrenders, not shipped-in stock.
And because the rescue reviews your application before you meet the cat, staff can steer you toward the animal that actually suits your household. They have watched these cats daily. That read on temperament is the most valuable thing an adopter gets, and no seller can offer it.
