Morden is a town in south-central Manitoba, in the Pembina Valley near the US border. This is sunflower and fruit country, a cluster of growing communities that includes nearby Winkler, set in some of the warmest farmland in the province. The shelter here serves that whole region, and the adoption list leans toward cats because rural and small-town intake usually does.
LocalPetFinder is not a shelter. We do not house cats or take applications. We pull the adoptable cats into one page and refresh it regularly, so what you see is close to what is genuinely available right now. You apply through the shelter directly. The site is free and we never add a fee on top of the shelter's adoption cost.
The Pembina Valley Humane Society has run for over twenty years out of Morden and serves the Morden and Winkler region. It is volunteer-run, and it pairs cat adoption with a low-cost spay and neuter program and a trap-neuter-return effort for community cats. That prevention work is the reason a small-town shelter can keep pace with the cat numbers a rural catchment produces.
Cats are vetted before they go home. Selection at any given moment is smaller than in a big-city shelter, so if a Morden cat suits your home, apply promptly rather than waiting to see what comes next. Ask about the individual cat, because the people who have cared for it can tell you far more than a listing can.
