Toronto Humane Society

The City of Toronto Animal Services operates three municipal shelters: West (146 The East Mall), North (1300 Sheppard Ave W), and East (821 Progress Ave), open by appointment for adoptions, surrender, redemption, and fostering. The service rehomes more than 4,000 animals and reunites 2,000+ lost pets with owners each year, offering spay/neuter for cats, dogs, and rabbits, and running a Second Chance Dogs program for animals requiring additional training.

Founded in 2014, Save Our Scruff is a Toronto-based, dogs-only foster rescue. Every dog lives with a vetted foster home before placement, with adopter-facing profiles covering gender, age, weight, energy, foster city, and compatibility with kids, cats, and dogs. Programmes include a Flight Buddy volunteer transport network and a monthly Scruff Pack donor stream.

Each dog is fostered before adoption, with profiles covering status, gender, age, size, breed, and a personality bio. In 2026 Hopeful Tails absorbed the community of the former Stray to Play rescue.

Detailed profiles cover gender, age, weight, breed, energy, and compatibility with dogs, cats, and children, and note each dog’s foster city across the Greater Toronto Area. Many dogs are international rescues placed with local foster families.

Redemption Paws is a Toronto-based foster rescue placing dogs (and some cats) into permanent homes, with one of the largest adoptable rosters in the GTA. Many dogs come through a Pay What You Can adoption fee program. Each profile carries a detailed personality write-up covering temperament, energy, and the kind of home the dog needs.
