The Labradoodle is a cross between a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle, bred for a friendly, biddable temperament and a coat that sheds less than a typical retriever. Most purebred-line Labradoodles are bought from breeders, but doodle-type crosses turn up regularly in Alberta rescue, often as owner surrenders or through rural and northern intake.

Because Labradoodle is a cross rather than a standardised breed, no two are identical. A rescue dog described as a Labradoodle could lean more Lab or more Poodle in coat, size and energy.
