Adopting a cat in Langley

Langley has two places to adopt a cat. The Langley Animal Protection Society (LAPS) runs the Patti Dale Animal Shelter at 26220 56th Avenue in Aldergrove, open seven days a week with viewing from 11 am to 5 pm, and it still takes in cats from both the Township and the City. CARES Cat Shelter is a cats-only, no-kill, cage-free shelter in Langley that has been rehoming cats since 1993, with adoptions at the Langley PetSmart and at the shelter by appointment.

LocalPetFinder is not a shelter and never charges adopters. The cats on this page are current listings from LAPS, CARES and other Lower Mainland rescues, plus cats listed by owners who are rehoming them. Langley cats come first, and each card shows the city the cat is actually in.

What a Langley cat adoption costs

LAPS charges $350 for a kitten up to 11 months, $300 for an adult cat and $175 for a senior aged ten or more, all plus PST, and the fee covers spay or neuter, a tattoo or microchip, first vaccinations, a vet check within three days, six weeks of insurance and a bag of food. CARES lists its 2026 fees as $350 for a cat up to a year old, $250 from one to six years, $200 from six to ten and $175 over ten, with specialty breeds at $500, including spay or neuter, vaccinations, a tattoo, deworming and flea treatment.

Neither the Township nor the City of Langley licenses cats, so there is no cat licence to buy.

Kittens for sale in Langley

Langley does not ban pet stores from selling cats. The City regulates them instead, capping a store at ten dogs and ten cats and requiring a record of where each animal came from. A rescue kitten usually arrives spayed or neutered, vaccinated and identified, and the people who fostered it can tell you how it gets along with kids, dogs and other cats. Kittens go fast in spring and summer, so set an alert.

Two cats settle faster than one

Cats that arrive at a rescue together are often placed together, and a bonded pair is frequently the easier adoption rather than the harder one. Two cats that already know each other decompress faster in a new home and keep each other company through a long workday. Ask the shelter which pairs it has.

The first weeks with a rescue cat

Cats decompress on their own timeline. The 3-3-3 guide applies here too: about three days to stop hiding, three weeks to trust a routine, three months to feel at home. A cat that hides under the bed for the first few days is normal. Give it a quiet room, predictable feeding and time.

For an emergency, the Animal Emergency Clinic of the Fraser Valley at 6325 204th Street, Unit 302, in Langley is open 24 hours a day, every day, on 604-514-1711.
