Dorintosh is a village of roughly a hundred people in northwest Saskatchewan. The dogs on this page are not the local pet population. They are listed here because Northern Transitional Dog Rescue is based at Dorintosh, and every dog in its care carries that base as its location.
The rescue itself works across a far wider area than the village. It pulls stray and roaming dogs from northern First Nations communities where there is no shelter, no municipal pound and often no veterinary clinic within hours. Dogs are vetted and fostered before they are placed. Dorintosh is the address on the file, not where the dog came from or where it will end up.
Adopters here rarely live nearby. Most come from Saskatoon, Prince Albert, Lloydminster, Edmonton or further, and the placement is arranged rather than walked into. That usually means an application and phone conversation first, then a meet organized around a transport run or a drive you make yourself. Ask the rescue how they handle it before you apply, because the logistics are part of the decision.
The dogs themselves are typically northern mixes, often young, frequently husky or shepherd crosses with real endurance and drive. Many have lived loose their whole lives and are learning leashes, doorways and household routine for the first time in foster care.
