Grey Cat Adoption British Columbia

As of October 2026, 97 Grey Cats are available for adoption in British Columbia across 12 rescues on LocalPetFinder. Listings update regularly as cats are adopted and new ones arrive — browse the current Grey Cats above and apply directly through the rescue.

LocalPetFinder lists adoptable grey cats from the BC rescues we cover, including BC SPCA, VOKRA, Heart and Soul and Broken Promises Rescue Society. Grey cats are usually well represented because, like black cats, they are slower to place. Listings refresh regularly and each profile links straight to the rescue.

No, and it is the most common confusion in grey cat adoption. Russian Blue is a pedigree breed with a specific body type, dense double coat and green eyes. Grey is a colour produced by a dilution gene acting on black and appears across many breeds and countless Domestic Shorthairs. Most grey cats in BC rescue are Domestic Shorthairs that happen to be grey.

Blue is the traditional breeder and show term for a diluted black coat, so it appears on pedigree paperwork and travels with a surrendered cat into its rescue listing. In practice blue and grey describe the same thing: a blue tabby is a grey tabby and a blue-cream is a dilute tortoiseshell.

Occasionally Russian Blue, British Shorthair, Chartreux, Korat or a Maine Coon in a blue coat, and nearly always as mixes rather than documented pedigrees. Far more often the cat is a grey Domestic Shorthair or Domestic Longhair, which is not a lesser cat in any way.

Adopting a Grey Cat in British Columbia typically costs $100 to $350, and kittens usually carry a premium at $175 to $400. The exact fee varies by rescue, and older cats are often reduced. That fee is not a purchase price. It covers work already done on the cat: spay or neuter, vaccinations, deworming, microchip, and a basic vet workup, which would cost several hundred dollars more if you arranged it yourself after buying. Colour is not a breed, so there is no breeder route to this coat specifically, and the fee reflects the cat's age and the veterinary work already done rather than its markings. Ask the rescue what is included before you apply, since a few include extras like a starter bag of food or a first-month insurance trial.
