Adopting a white cat in Quebec
White is the third most common colouring recorded in Quebec rescue, ahead of tuxedo and orange. It ranges from cats that are entirely white to cats with a few coloured markings that the description still leads with as white.
In Quebec listings this colouring is usually written as « chat blanc », which is worth knowing if you are searching a shelter's own site. Most of the cats on this page come from Montreal organizations, simply because they are the ones that describe a cat's markings in writing; several Quebec shelters list a cat with no physical description at all. If this list looks short, browse the full Quebec cat listings rather than concluding these cats are not available elsewhere in the province.
Two things worth asking about
Deafness is more common in white cats than in cats generally, particularly in white cats with blue eyes, and more so again when both eyes are blue. A deaf cat makes a perfectly good companion in an indoor home, which is the Quebec norm anyway, but it is worth knowing before you adopt rather than after. Ask the rescue directly whether the cat has been observed responding to sound.
A very pale coat also offers less protection from sun on ears and nose. That matters less for an indoor cat, but if yours will spend long stretches in a sunny window in summer, it is worth mentioning to your vet at the first visit rather than assuming an indoor cat has no exposure at all.
