Russian Blue Cats for Adoption in Calgary

0 Russian Blues currently available from Calgary cat rescues

Russian Blues are an elegant, refined breed with shimmering blue-grey coats and bright green eyes. They are quiet (one of the least vocal breeds), gentle, intelligent, and form strong bonds with one or two preferred humans while being reserved with strangers.

Purebred Russian Blues are uncommon in Calgary rescues but Russian Blue mixes and grey domestic shorthairs with similar temperament show up regularly. The mix often shares the breed's calm, gentle nature at a fraction of breeder prices.

Russian Blues produce less of the Fel d 1 allergen that triggers most cat allergies — they are commonly recommended for people with mild cat allergies. Their dense double coat is plush but low-shedding compared to most breeds.

Russian Blue Adoption FAQ

Are Russian Blues hypoallergenic?

No cat is 100% hypoallergenic, but Russian Blues are one of the better-tolerated breeds for people with mild cat allergies. They produce less Fel d 1 protein and shed less due to their dense undercoat. Severe allergy sufferers should still test exposure first.

Are Russian Blues good apartment cats?

Yes — Russian Blues are excellent apartment cats. They are quiet (rarely meow loudly), calm, and don't need much space. They appreciate a tall cat tree and consistent routines.

Do Russian Blues like other pets?

Russian Blues prefer calm households. They tolerate other cats and gentle dogs but typically don't seek out animal companionship. They may hide from boisterous pets. Best as the only cat or with a similarly calm cat.

How long do Russian Blues live?

Russian Blues typically live 15 to 20 years. They are generally healthy with few breed-specific issues. Maintain a healthy weight (they are prone to overeating), provide annual vet checkups, and they'll stay active well into senior years.
